Designer Interview: Rewritten

Created by two friends, Katie Arnott & Frances Cookson knew they wanted a collection of dresses that make an impact with all bridesmaids, any shape or size. We are very excited for all our bride’s squads to fall in love with the collection as much as we have! Keep scrolling to learn a little about the designers and their inspirations.

1) From where do you draw inspiration for your designs?
It was important to us when designing the collection that there was a style suited to every size bridesmaid, and that you could have all of your girls in different dresses but the same colourway. Our dresses are all silhouettes that we would want to wear ourselves, they are easy to wear, flattering and elegant. One particular inspiration for the collection came from a beautiful floaty chiffon caplet that my mother wore on her wedding day in the 70’s. There is something so bohemian and yet so contemporary about the silhouette and I think that is true of the entire Rewritten collection. Plus we wanted to create dresses and separates that you would want to wear again – we call it sustainable bridesmaids shopping – no more wardrobes full of dresses you will never re-wear. We use a beautiful flowing crepe polyester which drapes really beautifully and is fantastic for swishing around the dancefloor in (this was key!), the dresses are also fully lined throughout in the same fabric and feature concealed zips and covered buttons.

2) Do you design with a particular kind of woman in mind?
A Rewritten woman has confidence and an innate sense of style – she is any size or height and she knows how to rock a dress.

3) What is your favorite piece that you’ve created?
Fran My favourite piece is the new Seville dress – it feels so dramatic that we have nicknamed it the ‘Game of Thrones’ dress, I am just waiting for an opportunity to wear it myself!
Katie Mine would have to be the Vienna dress in our new Ink colour way – I am planning to style it with some metallic shoes and one of our new clutch bags for a black tie event I am attending later this year.

4) What do you love the most about what you do?
The best part of what we do is 100% when we see girls wearing our dresses – there is literally no better feeling.

5) Any goals or plans for your future designs/collections?
We are just launching a range of clutch bags which we are super excited about and we have some plans for a new short style dress and some embellished pieces – watch this space!
